Wishart launches new search for ‘Local Hero’
Scottish Liberal Democrat and Shetland MSP, Beatrice Wishart has launched a new search for ‘Shetland’s Local Hero’. The selected Local Hero will join MSPs and other Local Heroes from across Scotland, at a special commemorative event in Holyrood to mark 25 years of the Scottish Parliament.
The event will mark 25 years since the Scottish Parliament was officially opened on 1 July 1999. It will mark the achievements of the Parliament over the last 25 years as well as being a celebration of Scottish culture.
Wishart launched a similar search in 2021 to mark the opening of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament. Care worker and charity fundraiser Anita Georgeson was nominated to attend the event where she met Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the then Duke of Rothesay, Prince Charles.
To nominate a ‘Local Hero’ please contact Beatrice at:
beatrice.wishart.msp@parliament.scot or by phone on 01595 690044 with your reasons for nominating this person.
Nominations close Sunday 26th May 2024.
Launching the search Ms Wishart said:
“Many people in Shetland give their time and energy selflessly to their local community, making a positive contribution to the lives of others and often without recognition.
“With fellow MSPs, we will celebrate the achievements of our Local Heroes across every constituency and region in Scotland to mark the significant milestone of the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.
“I look forward to receiving nominations and hearing about the good work taking place across Shetland.
“In this 25th anniversary year, it is right that the people of Scotland are placed at the heart of our events.”
