Wishart highlights opportunity to ask BT questions in Lerwick
Shetland MSP and Scottish Liberal Democrat Beatrice Wishart has today highlighted that BT will be visiting Lerwick on 11th and 12th July to offer customers the opportunity to ask questions about their Digital Voice programme.
Digital Voice is the name for BT’s switchover from analogue to digital phone lines, which uses a broadband connection.
Ms Wishart has engaged repeatedly with BT on this issue, including at last November’s Digital Forum with Alistair Carmichael, raising the challenges of this planned switchover in Shetland, where in many areas broadband services are not yet sufficient for a digital phone line. BT recently delayed the deadline for their programme to 2027 following concerns that were raised by Mr Carmichael in a debate in the House of Commons about the impact on vulnerable customers.
Ms Wishart said:
“The analogue copper phone lines are being retired, with the plan being to switch customers to digital phone connections.
“While it is disappointing that BT are only visiting Lerwick on their Digital Voice roadshow, nevertheless this visit provides an opportunity for those who can attend to meet BT staff face-to-face and ask any questions they may have.
“If you have concerns about the switch to digital phonelines, or are having difficulties engaging with your supplier, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me and I can make representations on your behalf.”
